Big Cedar Lodge trip

We had our family trip for the summer this past weekend. We let the boys skip the 3rd day of school and headed to Branson to stay at Big Cedar lodge.  Jason had an ODA continuing education course there for three hours - a great excuse for a vacation!

Mini golf was free (and that's about it) - the boys loved this bonus!

These are just shots from around the resort

We went to Top of the Rock for dinner. This is the driving range of their golf course. My boys were drooling!

We ate at the new Arnie's Barn, named after Arnold Palmer. It was mexican fare and was delish!

Enlarged card from an Open Championship!

This barn is 150 years old - taken from his hometown and rebuilt, piece by piece, here.

A view of the course from the restaurant. So pretty. The waterfall on the right was lovely!

This was the only picture from the second night. We ate leftovers from dinner on Friday, and rented a movie and had room service for fun.

Big Cedar was pretty scenery and the facilities were well done.  As a family vacation, it just doesn't hold a candle for any of us to Fair Hills and made us really appreciate the true vacation that resort offers a family.

First Day of School!

Twas the night before school and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, well, maybe a mouse..
The backpacks were hung by the back door with care
In hopes that morning would soon be there...
It was still dark outside when we started taking pictures!  We had random weather today - rainy and a high of 70 - in August!!!  Outfits had to be adjusted slightly!

 Reid Jeffrey Walker
He was excited about today. He never seemed nervous, but perhaps a bit quiet. He will be attending only half day, which is for three hours.  It's perfect for our family's and Reid's needs at this time.
Favorite color: orange and red
Favorite sport: golf, basketball, soccer, baseball
Favorite food: carrots
When I grow up, I want to be a(n):  police officer, firefighter man, and a doctor

Kyle Douglass
We have had a rule with Kyle for years now - pick out your clothes the night before school. We always argue about them when he waits. He did last night; however, he picked black shorts that were worn to church during a flour fight, and he didn't ever put them in the laundry pile but simply back in his cabinet.  You can imagine how well that went over with me at 6:55 a.m.  We settled on this outfit so he could be "a bit dressy but still sportsy."  Whatever, dear.
Favorite color: dark blue
Favorite sport: basketball
Favorite food: bratwurst
The thing I want to work on this year is: learning cursive
When I grow up, I want to be a(n):NBA professional basketball player

Grant Jason
My oldest angel announced his last first day of elementary.  I have really struggled with my emotions this year, and it's mostly because I cannot believe he is this old.  I am having more trouble with Grant being in 5th than Reid in PK.  He is super excited to return.  He has decided to challenge himself as we have seen a piece of paper he wrote quoting his teacher from last year - something along the lines of "becoming the kid who leads with character and respect."  He's ready for this year!
Favorite color: Royal Blue
Favorite sport: Baseball
Favorite food: Breakfast Foods(doughnuts, pancakes,etc)
The thing I want to work on this year is: Science
When I grow up, I want to be a(n): MLB Player

Annual photo by the sign!

I feel like Grant and Kyle are little men in this one.
Grant emits happiness and Kyle emits coolness.

oh, Mrs. Fox. If we could only have her every year....

the hall was empty except for the Swanns and the Walkers! How's that even possible at 7:40 on the first day?!
Hi, friends!

Family photo! It's the first year Jason has attended the first day of school! Good thing since it's the one and only for all three boys to be there!

Grant headed out from his family after the group photo, but Kyle wanted to show Reid the cafeteria and how to get morning milk.  So, the four of us went to try it out.  Kyle gave us thumbs up!

So little man had to give us one as well!

Glad Juliane got one of the big boys - already doing an assignment before the bell rang!

Reid knows several friends in his class, including our neighbor, John!

Back to School!

This is our new pavilion. Our PTA has purchased this for the school's smaller playground. It was requested when Grant was in Pre-K and Kindergarten but the last batch of officers decided to go ahead and buy it due to great fundraising!
What a great group of officers that must have been.... cough.... cough...

Meet the teacher night -
Reid gets the same Pre-K teacher we had with Kyle!
Mrs. Gardner

Kyle and GG made a 3rd Grade Rocks rock for his teacher...

Mrs. Goad!

Grant gets a new teacher - Mrs. G!

Last days of summer!

We've had morning cuddles several days in the past week! One of them turned in to a "Mom, take our picture!" for these two kiddos.
Silly faces!

sweet smiles!

Reid loves to play pretend - store, kitchen, restaurant, etc.  He has set up our wet bar area as "his toy store" and this is, obviously, his cash register area.  On the left you can see open cabinets...

... which is where he keeps his merchandise to sell!  He would love to play with anyone if you want to come visit!

Our "Summer of Dawn" as Jason called it is now complete.... from the Wednesday of the first week of summer to the Wednesday of the last full week of summer .... we now have our dishwasher.  "Funny" thing about the whole deal is it isn't the model we bought as we didn't want the handle; after three months, we decided to keep it anyways.  We can now use our big sink and not the prep sink!

We've been to White Water and Frontier City!  Jason was able to come play with us, too!
Sonic happy hour drinks were a must!

and snocones from Carmen at our favorite stand were a must for Kyle on our date night!

We hosted about 30 friends from church to welcome Tanner as our new youth pastor. Jason and Josh dressed like twinkies!

We finally were able to find barstools that match and fit under the island. We've loved having all three kids there together.
