Baby stats

Reid had his one year check up yesterday.  Fun to compare one year stats!
Grant: 23.2, 30"
Kyle: 22.13, 31"
Reid: 22.5, 30"
I am actually surprised that Grant was the heaviest.  I always thought Kyle was the largest!

In the past two days, Reid has been diagnosed with Dennie-Morgan Folds (more wrinkles under the eyes signaling increased allergies) and a skin condition called Atopic Dermatitis (aka really bad eczema that is hard to control).  We did a blood work test to see if any of the main foods (milk, nuts, fish, etc) are triggering any of the above.  We do know he is allergic to bananas and spinach so far!  I'm going to guess tomatoes, too.

Reid is ONE!

Time flies!  We now are blessed with a 7 year old, 5 year old and sweet little 1 year old!  Happy 1st birthday, Reid Jeffrey!  Sure doesn't seem like it was a year ago when I was writing about our delivery and the first days of his life!  We had a small family party with my parents, Jason's parents, and my brother and sister-in-law!  Thanks for coming, family.  We had a great evening with you.
Reid's cakes were blue, orange and green.  The top blue one was chocolate and the bottom green on was a triple-layered cake with green, blue and orange stripes.  He got some clothes, inflatable kiddie pool with sunshade, ball popper, books, a green four wheeler and a bike helmet for our family bike rides!

These pictures were supposed to be at the end of the post, but they somehow landed in the middle of the party pictures!  oh well.  Reid attacking his birthday cake is at the end.... he was messy!
This batch of photos were taken 2 days before he was one, and I took them at the local botanic garden.

Reid was hesitant at first with his cake, but after he finally tasted the icing, he calmly dug in to the thing!  Above is a finale picture right before I rinsed him off at the sink.  Below are several of him eating his cake, from barely touching to the ultimate face plant and cake dump!

Regardless of how messed up I think blogger is, how could I forget to post that KYLE lost his FIRST TOOTH!?!?!  A few weeks ago, during Friday morning assembly, one of my teacher friends texted me this picture and said "I just pulled it!"  Although his Daddy had told him the tooth wasn't ready, Kyle felt like he should lose teeth like his brother so he wiggled and wiggled and wiggled and POP!  :)
G-boy's teacher came to watch a baseball game.  Here he is with two of his classmates.  The team is basically all first graders from our school and second graders from another school.  Isn't she a great teacher?  We have loved our year with Mrs. Andrew!  She said she could retire but we're hoping that she waits six years until all the boys are through! :) unlikely but one can dream....
Kyle and I on his class Easter picnic.  Again, delayed post!
Grant's basketball team!  We love our coach and all but one of these guys are in Grant's school.  They are truly a great group of boys!
 CHICK-FIL-A: You are awesome!
A friend in our LifeGroup told us about the Mother/Son Date Knight at Chick-fil-a and we decided to go.  It was so great!  Decorations were cute and fun table activities to keep us occupied.  Too bad the boys just wanted to go play with their friends in the playground area!  goobers.
It's a Bird!  It's a Plane!  Nope, it's Kyle dressed up, again!  Don't you feel safe with Sir Knight Walker?!

Blogger updated its format several weeks ago and you know what I have noticed?  That I don't post as much as I used to!  From my end, user-friendliness was taken away and our photos take a-g-e-s to upload (the previous post was over a 28 hours period).  That may have been due to a slower internet for a few days that is now solved but still....  So, I am still here and will put up stuff when I can and time allows for patience.

Until then.... have you done something nice for someone today?

Jason had another birthday.  We celebrated a few days late but here we are at his office opening presents.
Family picture!
Grant's baseball team had a scrimmage before our games started.  It just so happened it was Moms v Boys.  This is me after having scored a run (which I don't think ever happened in our co-ed softball league).  I was pitcher and got Grant out at first!  Moms won (by a lot).  So fun.
Here he is playing pitcher at the first game of the season.  Although there seem to be a lot of games, we really are having a great time this season.  Good families and group of kids, and our coaches are very, very good, both at teaching baseball skills as well as being role models.
My punkin swinging in the backyard.
Punkin and me having a quick photo (I did this with the camera timer - we never get pictures!)
First magnolia blossom of the season.  I have always loved magnolia trees.  Not only do they keep their leaves throughout the year, but are pretty.  And they very much remind me of my grandparents' house on a lake growing up.  They had a huge one in their backyard.
Typical post-school afternoon for us.  What you can't see is Reid in the tree swing above Grant's head.  We are almost always outside, with hats on, having fun!
These were my birthday present!  Love them.  I look at them and think "Happiness!"  Plus, they won't die and I don't have to remember to water them in July and August!
Jason and I planned what initially was a cousin reunion for the Hefner cousins but it (fortunately) great to include the parents and Granny.  Within just a few weeks, we were able to get everyone in the family (30+) with the exception of one cousin who was busy sanding wood floors and one who was having a day with her family.  We just simply met at a pavilion at a park and everyone was assigned something to bring to eat.  We played sports and just talked for several hours!  It was great to be together without the stress of the holidays, which is usually the only time we're all together, or a funeral.
All of the cousins and the spouses!
Tripp and Reid - 7 weeks apart so they are going to be buddies when they're older if the parents have anything to say about it!
We were at the park from 10 am - 4 pm, which is both of Reid's naps.  He finally fell asleep in his stroller about 3 pm and it only lasted 15 or 20 minutes, but overall, he was in a good mood most of the day!

thanks, Kyle

We have mentioned before about how much Kyle loves to
1. Help Out
As you can see from how beautiful our backyard is right now!  Kyle has seen me take the round-up and spray weeds and borders around our flowerbeds.  A few weeks ago, we were across the street talking with neighbors, and we hear our gate shut.  We look and see Kyle walking across the front yard carrying our big deal of round-up, spraying, and wearing his rain boots (just like the "real" yard sprayers).  Thanks, buddy, for trying to be helpful.
 2. Dress Up
We find this kid, nearly every night, in Anakin, Darth Vader, Power Ranger, Iron Man or Spiderman.  This day, it was Anakin and the water hose was his light saber.

Memorial Marathon 2012

We both participated in the Memorial marathon this year.  It was Jason's third year to complete the 1/2 marathon, and although his time was slower than last year, it's great for him to say he did it (along with the other 27,000 people who did an event!).  So proud of him!
I was part of a relay team this year.  I do not enjoy running, nor do I have the time or motivation to train to run the long distances, so my 6.4 miles was just perfect for me!  I did it in exactly a 10:00/mile, which is fine for me.  I started the first few miles at a 9 min pace and couldn't keep it up, and didn't really care!  :)  Jason and I were able to run together until I peetered out.  It was the first race for several of my teammates - every single one loved the event and wants to do it again next year!  Very fun, rewarding, challenging and inspiring.
Courtney headed home early since she was soooo tired from being in Florida for a week (!!) but here is Taylor, Rachelle, Jen and me.  We followed it by a great meal at Ted's with Jason and Taylor's Dad!
Being the first leg of the relay, I had a lot of time to kill.  I basically sat at the finish line looking for Jason, my four people I really care about who were trying their first full marathon, and then Jen.  Best quote of the day came from a friend who was trying for the Boston marathon and missed her time by a few minutes (had to get a 3h35m time)  "oh well, I did it.  Off to make a baby!"  :)  Love her priorities!
