Granny

Hefner, Irma Ruth (Boyd) A service to celebrate the life of Irma Hefner, 85, is scheduled for Friday, September 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Mayfair Church of Christ. She stepped into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.  She was born on February 18, 1931, to Eula Lee “Pebbie” and Jimmie Boyd in Tipton, OK.  Irma graduated from Tipton High School in 1949.  She attended Abilene Christian College and majored in Home Economics.  On June 22, 1952, she married the love of her life, Kenneth L. Hefner.  Together, they raised five happy and healthy children.  She was a faithful Christian, a dedicated member of Mayfair Church of Christ, and a small group leader in Bible Study Fellowship.  Irma loved her family and put the needs of her children before her own. She was involved in many of her children’s activities. Ken and Irma were instrumental in starting girls' softball leagues in Oklahoma City.  She was passionate about golf, never giving up, and even earned a hole in one.  Irma enjoyed arranging flowers, played bridge with her friends for many years, and was known for her hospitality.  She loved making Christmas cookies with her children, grandchildren, and neighborhood children. After raising their family, Ken and Irma cherished their many traveling adventures together. Irma passed her love of contemporary furnishings and the works of Frank Lloyd Wright on to her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh which will be greatly missed.

Irma/Mom/Granny is survived by her five children and families:  Kathy and Doug Hall, Stillwater, OK – Anne and Wes Hall, Stacy and Jason Walker; Cindy Merrick and Ally Richardson, Norman, OK – Katie and Will Merrick, Caitlin and Scott Merrick; Paige and Jay Hefner, Dallas, TX – Hope, Jace, Graham; Kelly and Tony Shinn, Edmond, OK – Libby and Gerardo Myrin, Katie and Taylor Shinn; Valerie and Ralph Mestre, Garland, TX – Chase Colvin, Chad Colvin.  She loved her 10 great grandchildren: Jacob Hall; Grant, Kyle and Reid Walker; Tripp and Vail Merrick; Emerson and Riley Merrick; Amaris Myrin; and Hazel Shinn.   Irma is also survived by her sister, LaRue Boyd, of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents; her adoring husband, Ken; two infant sons, Randy and Park; and her sister, Joy Boyd.

Irma's family wants to thank her health professionals, especially Dr. Dianne Gasbarra, Stacey Rose APRN CNS, and DeDe Barnes RN with Carter Hospice.  They also appreciate Robin Fearnow and the staff and residents of The Fountains at Canterbury for their caring attitudes.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mayfair Church of Christ, 2340 NW 50, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, or a charity of your choice.
