Mr. Reid chose Boston as his 13th birthday destination.
And we're off!
We used Priceline for the trip and after asking a few people the best area to stay in, we chose a hotel near the theater district. We stayed in the Revere Hotel. It was great!
Thursday: we downloaded a $1.99 Freedom Trail app on our phones and literally followed the brick trail around town! Breakfast at Dunkin Donuts (more than 130 locations in Boston!). This took us to 18 historic sites around the town (we walked to 17 of them and our Uber driver volunteered to drive us by the 18th on our way home). Reid loved it.Paul Revere burial site
there are a few cemeteries in the middle of town with a lot of the famous names in them.
Benjamin Franklin statue
Location of the Boston Massacre
Lunch at the Samuel Adams brewery - Reid has his "beer" too!
in between the Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market - lots of live entertainment in the street here. Quincy market had a huge assortment of food. This location was just quintessential Boston - old and new buildings and pavers on roads.
Best street that day. The oldest pub in America is to the left. It has only been closed for a few years during prohibition in like 300+ years.
Best desserts.
Paul Revere statue
Skinniest house in America - 10'4". The owner built it to annoy the owner to the right and is still a single family dwelling.
Just a typical headstone - dates 300+ years back - and not "normal" English. The ones you can still read, don't read how we speak now.
USS Constitution
Must have been tiny humans...
Jason and Reid hopped in to listen to a very dramatic tour leader speaking about John Adams. He was very enthusiastic.
Reid wanted to be a part of a tour of the Old North Church - where Paul Revere's "one if by land, two if by sea" midnight ride and is the oldest surviving church in America. Jason and I sat this one out but Reid took (a lot) of pictures for us. Here are four.
These are the crypts where LOTS of folks are buried.
Our Uber drove us by the Battle of Bunker (or Breed's) Hill. He said the farmland was owned by the Breed family and not the Bunker family so the battle has always been incorrectly named.
We walked a half mile to a local pizza place for dinner and back. I walked 18,454 steps this day!
