US Air Force Baseball - and Flying Solo!

Grant currently wants to attend the US Air Force Academy, and he thinks, as of now, he'd love to play baseball.  Nothing but big dreams for him!  :)  He has never attended a baseball camp before and asked about this one.  Grant has been (knock on wood!) a pretty great kid and we said "you bet!"  We also decided to let this be his first attempt at flying solo and trying to navigate that part of life.

Toni and Greg heard about this and were so kind - got him a jersey and a hat!

Father's Day morning - he flew out of Stillwater on the early flight.  He had to connect in Dallas to his flight to Colorado Springs.  From there, he got on a shuttle to the Academy and did the camp check-in by himself, settled in his dorm, and got adjusted.

The advantage to using the small airport is obvious - one flight and Dad was allowed to wait with him at the gate until departure.

On Thursday afternoon, Mom and I drove to Colorado, spent the night in a hotel, and went to Friday's baseball camp.

This was free food in the hotel lobby when we arrived!

I took this same picture last summer - it has new meaning when my son is actually on the field I am taking the picture of at the time!

Grant learned the proper way to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance

Not bad collegiate, or camp, views!

Coach Kazlausky visiting with parents

We finally were able to hug his neck at noon!  They ended the day short as severe storms were approaching.

He was so happy. So, so happy.  Yet, so v-e-r-y tired.  :)
The camp was on a military base and they ran it military-style.  Morning wakeup at 6:30, dress, make beds, and then go to breakfast.  Be ready for camp by 8:15 and walk together to the field.  And when I say walk, they often had to march!  Literally!  ha. I would have enjoyed watching that portion but missed it on Friday.  Grant actually didn't mind it a bit.  He now follows all AF divisions on Instagram and sees pictures of the current cadets at Basic Training, and likes it!

When G was flying, he met a girl from Yukon.  He found this on her instagram the following week and loved it!
