Hawaii - the Big Island - May 21 and 22

Our family has talked about Hawaii for a few years and with Grant soon living here no more than six weeks a year, we decided it was the time to go.  We left Stillwater after his Meridian graduation ceremony on Saturday night and spent the night in the minivan at the airport. It was delightful! Woke up that morning (my birthday!) to cramps and achy bodies. ha!
Our layover was in Las Vegas.

Jason came up to Kyle and said something about seeing what appears to be a UFC fighter over by the next gate. When Kyle finally chose to believe him, it turns out it was Chase Hooper who had just won the night before in Vegas! Kyle was ecstatic and Chase graciously took this photo.

Getting so close!
Per a friend's recommendation, we drove straight to a beach just north of the airport. It was really pretty. The guys got in and I stayed to watch our stuff on the sand.
(it was still my birthday - 29 hour birthday this year!)

We stayed at the Hali'i Kai resort at Waikola. For dinner, we got pizza from Kings Court pizzeria on the resort, bough groceries for the next few days and settled in to some great digs.

Our first full day we went to the quaint town of Waimea, and then headed north to the Lookout. We got the best pictures there. We then traveled east to Hilo and hit the Akaka, Rainbow falls and Pepe falls. We drove back to the condo through the highway in the middle of the island. We made spaghetti for dinner and played tennis and pickle ball and went swimming and watch the sunset from the resort area.

Pictures from around the resort. We stayed had a great condo with full kitchen so we bought easy food to make.
Swimming in the pool.
